Campaign Link Checker privacy

Campaign Link Checker makes no network call at all: there is no account, and nothing it records leaves your browser on its own.

What it reads

Locally: the address of the page you landed on (its host, utm_* values, cid code, the tracking codes your rules name and click ids, such as gclid and fbclid), the navigations of a campaign link you open in a tab, a few facts about the page's requests to Google Analytics 4 and Adobe, the links of a Gmail draft when you press the button, and the text you paste or upload. It is processed only in your browser and never sent.

A campaign value or a click id (cid, gclid, fbclid) can identify a person or an ad click, and an email draft can hold personal links: they are what is being checked. Of the page's requests, only a few facts about the Google Analytics 4 and Adobe ones are kept (the campaign values and the tracking code they carry), at most 30 per tab; no clicks and no keystrokes are recorded.

It reads no health, financial or payment, authentication or location information, and asks for no sign-in.

Where it is kept

In the browser's session storage (chrome.storage.session), per tab and deleted when the tab or the browser closes:

  • the landing record (the host, the utm_* values, the cid value, the values of the tracking codes your rules name, at most 10 codes of up to 300 characters each, and the click-id values), only when the address carries a campaign value (utm_*, cid, a tracking code your rules name or a click id); a page without one stores nothing;
  • the campaign redirect chain (host and path of the link, of each step and of the page it led to, and of each address only the utm_* values, cid, the tracking codes your rules name (at most 10 codes, each value at most 300 characters) and the click ids), only for links that carry a campaign parameter (utm_*, cid, a tracking code your rules name or a click id), because ordinary browsing records nothing;
  • a few facts about the analytics requests, at most 30 per tab.

In chrome.storage.local, until you delete them: your team's rules, at most 20 sets of 64 KB each. They hold the names and allowed values you wrote, not the pages you visit.

Your light or dark theme preference (lv_theme, in the panel's localStorage) is a display setting, not personal data, and is never sent.

Emails and pasted text

The Gmail draft is read only when you press the button in the Email tab, only the links of the compose box (their address and up to 80 characters of their text), and it is never stored. Pasted or uploaded text is read as text and kept in the panel's memory only: it is gone when the panel closes.

Incognito windows

If you allow the extension in incognito windows (Chrome asks you to turn that on; the manifest of the extension does not ask for it), campaign links opened there are followed too, in session storage only.

What leaves your browser

What you ask for: the CSV, the copied links and the rules file, which you create by pressing a button. The file leaves through a download from the side panel and the text through the clipboard.

Third parties

Campaign Link Checker does not sell or transfer user data to third parties, and does not use it for any purpose other than checking your campaign links.
